I empathize with lurkers because all the insecurities i have about interacting with people in real life have carried over to interacting with people on the internet. Lurkers aren't trying to be malicious. They just want to absorb some sort of semi-personal human contact in any form to satisfy the part of the brain nagging them for it, without the inevitable guilt of bothering people with their words or the perceived ridicule in any reply.

Why not just accept their existence and put out a plate of milk and cookies for them. Like they are Santa Claus and they come into your house from down the chimney and take a big whiff of your dirty laundry and then leave without a trace.

I feel lonely on this page so i am going to quote the last post

i see no need for that: you can use your fav network sites for that or emails

and i also cannot see a flood of new members or posts because, yes, we are a very closed community: we call each other by name and we dont have a specific direction... at external eyes we are extremely boring. no appeal at all.
i would never join a community like ours

could be ok to hide the chatty to keep our privacy?

no one says anything that personal on the chatbox cause however you do it, it will still be visible to others who are signed up to the mb.

well, i dont like when people read my newspaper standing om my back and i also dont like 'unknown' people, or even worse, no longer active users, to read my thoughts from that MB' section.
i think i've said that several times... i dont like to feel like i am here to make them spend their spare time, i'm not on this planed to entertain people.
this place is (was) an interactive community, or this is how i've always looked at it

we are all different, aren't we? you don't need to understand how and what i feel and i dont always have to justify myself for my actions, especially if they are no harm to anyone and dont not involve a complete revolution of your lives.

It isn't other people coming here that makes me worried so much as it is search engine bots.

Just the right search terms can lead people here. I use my real name. I talk about real events and real. But I certainly don't talk about as much because this place just isn't safe.

And we can close this forum to people who are only logged in but that doesn't mean lurkers can't lurk.

I don't mind Ben lurking. Or Kyle or Jess. It is the bots and the random search engine traffic that freaks me out. Ben can log in, be hidden and not post just as easy as if he is unlogged in.
